Vidfamne ligger nu på Gotenius varv och vårrustningen kan börja!
I onsdags så flyttade vi från vår vinterhamn på Eriksberg till Gotenius varv på Ringön. På torsdagen lyfte vi skeppet. Vi har skaffat och ställt i ordning mycket av de material och verktyg vi behöver. Tack till alla som hjälpt till!
Nu drar själva varvsarbetet och vårrustningen igång på allvar. Redan på tisdag eftermiddag kommer Johan H att vara på plats och börja skrapa nitar. Kommande helger kommer det vara arbete på lördagar och söndagar.
Vi behöver hjälp av alla med att få skeppet i ordning. Det tar mycket tid och möda att skrapa, slipa, primea, måla, tjära och göra vårfint. Alla som kan behöver hugga i så att vi blir klara. Det är dessutom väldigt trevligt i vårsolen. Erfarenhet behövs inte, allt du behöver är ett gott humör och kläder som kan bli skitiga.

Ship maintainence at the shipyard
Do you want to help maintain a real viking ship replica?
We are an association that have built Vidfamne, a replica of a viking ship found just north of Gothenburg. We sail it every summer since 30 years back, and during spring time we spend time to maintain it. The ship is collectively owned by the members of the association. We invite you to join us and help maintain a unique piece of Scandinavian history.
This year will be a bit more maintenance than usual. The ship is currently at the Gotenius Shipyard at Ringön, Hisingen.
We have quite a bit of work ahead of us. We need to scrape the bottom of the ship, polish the rivets (the ”nails” holding the boards of the ship together), put new bottom paint and tar, and make the ship ready for the summer. The work is physical, sometimes uncomfortable, and you will get dirty (so bring clothes and shoes that you don’t care for!), but you don’t need to be strong and regular at the gym to attend 🙂
